An appreciation for the fundamentals always paid dividends in my experiences. It paid to know DOS when Windows arrived. Will it pay to certify in VS 6.0, vs. VS .NET, or is it assumed that if you've got .NET you know the fundamentals?
Except for the APIs and services that VS.NET possesses that Visual Studio 6.0 does not, the two environments are more or less the same. Thus, any learning you obtain on VS 6.0 will help you learn the basics of VS.NET much faster. Since the VS.NET courses and exams will probably be emerging over the next 12-18 months before they're complete, you've come up with an excellent strategy to help make yourself productive sooner rather than later. Good thinking!
