Displaying volume control icon on taskbar in XP Pro

I recently upgraded workstations on my network from Windows 2000 Professional to XP Professional. After doing so, users complained that they missed having the volume icon, which appears on the taskbar in earlier versions of Windows. Is there any way to add this icon to the toolbar in XP?
To display the volume control icon in the notification area, open sounds and audio devices in the control panel, and on the volume tab, under device volume, select the "place volume icon in the taskbar notification area" check box. Some sound systems (such as USB audio) do not allow this, however.
