Do large user profiles slow down Win2k workstations?

One of my Windows 2000 workstations boots up slow and just seems to run applications slow as well. It has 1Ghz, 125Mb Ram. I suspect that the user profile may be the problem. Its size is 78Mb. What causes the profile to get this large? How can I reduce its size?

The main problem may not be the user profile (the size of the profile is deceptive and includes things like files in that person's documents directory), but the amount of memory in the computer and the speed of the hard drive. I'd recommend installing at least another 64 to 128MB of RAM -- the more the better -- for the best possible results.
