Does Windows 2000 support writing to CD/DVD-RW media?

I am using a Windows 2000 system until I can restore my own Windows XP HE system. When I attempt to burn a disk for backup, etc., the system sees the drive, but does not see the media installed and continues to ask for it. I presume something is "shut off." How do I resolve this?

Unlike XP, Windows 2000 Professional doesn't support writing to CD/DVD-RW media without a third-party add-on like Adaptec EasyCD or Roxio. 2000 will recognize the drive, but won't be able to write to media without outside assistance.
