I have a Win2k domain controller on a mixed network. I've been receiving messages in the Event Viewer about no domain controller available. I AM able to see/access all of the network. I read somewhere that I should try joining a workgroup and then go back and join the domain and that would fix the "no domain server" problem. I did this, got the Welcome to xxx workgroup, and after re-booting, changed and got the Welcome to yyy domain. Now, in Network Places I see my original domain PLUS the new workgroup that I created just as a tool. I don't want that workgroup in there and I can't figure out how to get rid of it. Any ideas?
This has happened on my network, too, and it took a while to track down. The solution turned out to be removing the workgroup name from the WINS database.
