Getting the right IP address on a WAN
I am installing an ACATEL modem to a DLINK 7-port Router. The router accommodates a WAN link to the modem. I have a Window 2000 server and five workstations on the router. The LAN works well. I am having difficulty, however, getting the proper IP address scenario in place. Should I use the server as a DHCP agent or the router?
It's always best to have your server doing as little as possible, so I would set
it up as just another PC that grabs an IP address from your Dlink router,
and turn off the DHCP server in Win2k. The only exception to this would be
if you need a static IP on your server to handle web services or something
similar.
