How can I get certain PCs to run faster on network shared drives?

We have a NT domain which is trusted with a 2003 Active Directory domain.

The trust is from AD to NT (one way). We have installed Windows XP PCs logging into Active Directory, but it is taking too much time to access file servers which are still in the NT domain. Both of them are in the same subnet of the LAN and no router is in between.

Please suggest how you would go about getting those XP PCs to work faster on network shared drives.

Check for SMB Signing on the Active Directory domain, most likely in the Default Domain Policy. If SMB Signing is enabled on the AD domain but not the NT domains, clients can experience long wait times in accessing network resources.
