How can I identify Windows Task Manager processes?

How can I know what the various Windows Task Manager processes are that show up under the Processes tab?
Sometimes you just recognize the process name. For example, you have to assume that the process called explorer.exe is Windows Explorer. Other times, you have to search the hard disk for the name of the process. The executable file usually has the same name as the process. Last, and definitely not least, I like to search Google for the name of the process. This almost always finds me a description of the process.
