How can I remove an uncompleted WinXP installation that appears at startup? Someone booted the PC with a Windows XP CD and the new installation was stopped.
One way to get around this is to use BOOTCFG in the Recovery Console (for XP) to delete BOOT.INI entries. Here is a very detailed tutorial on how to use it: http://tweakhomepc.virtualave.net/dual/bootcfg.shtml (If you want to replace the XP installation with another OS, just install the new OS over the existing installation and format the partition.)
