How can I update the BIOS to recognize a new hard drive?

I have a new 80 GB hard drive that I tried to add to my old system. The drive is not being recognized by the BIOS. Is there a way I can update the BIOS?
Most major hardware manufacturers provide updates for the BIOSes of their desktop products. Check the Web site of your computer manufacturer in the Support/Downloads section for any available updates, as well as instructions for updating the BIOS.
