How can I use an old hard drive in a new computer?

I have a Windows 2000 server that was built from spare parts. It finally died so I tried to put the hard drive in a Compaq 510 Desktop. Needless to say, I got a blue screen because of the new hardware. My question is: How can I use this hard drive (which I need desperately) in the new computer?
You should boot from the Windows 2000 CD media and perform a repair installation, or an in-place upgrade if the repair doesn't work. This will allow Windows to re-enumerate the hardware that's in the new CPU. As a last resort, you can perform a clean install of 2000 on a new hard drive, install the old hard drive as a data drive, and manually re-share any data and re-install applications.
