How do I move user directories from one machine to another?

Can you tell me how I can move the users of one Windows 2000 machine to a new installation on a different PC? Will I have to re-enter all of the profile information?
There is a Microsoft document which explains user directory imports/exports in Active Directory. Many of the same concepts also apply to stand alone servers that do not use AD.
