How do I scan an image in non-interlaced GIF format?

How do I scan an image in non-interlaced GIF format? I am trying to upload a handwriting template scanned in GIF format but the Web site says the image must be non-interlaced format. Your help would be appreciated.
This all depends on the program you are using to export the GIF image. The program should provide you with options to control how the GIF is being exported; if not, then you need to use a different program that can handle GIF exports more elegantly. Many freeware image editors (GIMP, for instance, at www.gimp.org), have very precise controls over how an image can be exported. (GIMP doesn't handle GIF natively due to software patents regarding the GIF format, but a GIF add-on can be downloaded for the program easily.)
