ISP records for dynamic IP addresses

How long do ISPs keep records for dynamic IP addresses? I mean, do they keep them for years? What about those who have closed down accounts?
I suppose it could vary depending on the ISP, but this information is frequently referenced during investigations both internal to the ISP and by law enforcement agencies. I can't say for sure, but I suspect that the answer is "indefinitely." So, yes, they can still track you down.
