Is having SUS on SMS affecting my patch update notifications?

I've tried to set up SUS and then set my client to search from it for patches. Even though I have new patches approved and downloaded to the SUS server, my client (pointed to SUS via a Windows 2000 Active Directory group policy object) never notifies me of the new patches. Am I missing something? The SUS file is SUS10SP1.exe. Do I need something else to get this working? SUS is on an SMS 2.0 server. Could there be a conflict?
