Is there a quick way to check patches?

When I check links about patches, I usually come to the conclusion that my network's patches are already up to date. That's because I use WindowsUpdate regularly. Is there a quick way of determining whether a patch is already covered by WindowsUpdate?
Unfortunately, no. But, if you are a regular user (say once a month), that should do the trick. Many of the items posted on this site aren't truly patches to the operating system, but updated versions of applications that add functionality.
