Our research consistently shows network security is one of today's hottest job specialties. In the 2001 RHI Consulting IT Salary Guide, security-related positions led all job categories with average starting salaries projected to rise 10.9 percent; those in management roles are expected to see the biggest jump with a 12.7 percent increase.
As a growing number of businesses rely on the Internet for both commerce and the exchange of information, the need to secure internal and external networks has become paramount. As a result, companies (particularly those with web-based networks) are becoming more proactive in developing and maintaining proactive security policies as a means of forestalling potential risks before they disrupt operations. This heightened emphasis on network security is generating strong demand for IT professionals with expertise in encryption and authentication, intrusion monitoring, and the administration of firewalls and virtual private networks (VPNs).
Combining your strong networking background with additional security expertise would result in a very marketable skill set.
