Monitoring clients without disrupting users

I'm looking for a way to monitor what is happening on a Windows 2000 machine (IBM SurePos 750 till) without disturbing the user who may be dealing with customers. For example, if a till is running slow, I'd like to be able to pull the CPU, disk, memory and network counters and be able to see what services and processes are running and what their resource usage is. Any ideas?
There are a number of such programs, although if you are using a POS-type machine I am not sure if they will work. You should check with the manufacturer of the POS machine to see if programs that do harvesting of statistics still work correctly, and that you can install them on such a machine.
