Preload an image using JavaScript

I have a customer who wants to preload an image using JavaScript. He states that it works on other servers running Win2k and IIS 5.0 but not mine. Are there any patches or links that can give me some more info on this?
Probably the best place to look is Microsoft's MSDN Online. Microsoft has gotten excellent at organizing the various development tools and languages so you can find information fast. The best place to start is by searching for preload and JavaScript.
