Problems with the SMS_EXECUTIVE service

My primary site server is having problems with the SMS_EXECUTIVE service. It fails every hour with the standard 'service terminated unexpectedly' error. I checked the crashdump logs and it always fails on SMS_SCHEDULER. I can find plenty of articles on other threads causing the service to fail when related to trying to process corrupt DDRs, but nothing on SMS_SCHEDULER. As far as I can tell, the scheduler service is related to creating INS files for the clients during software distribution. What does the SMS_SCHEDULER do every hour to cause this to happen? How do I troubleshoot further into what may be wrong with the scheduler thread, or is it telling me that and I actually have a problem elsewhere?
