Relationship between .net and .com addresses

Relationship between .net and .com addresses

What is the process that takes place when resolving a .net web address when the users DNS servers have authority for a .com address?
There's no relationship between the .com and .net address for a given domain name. For example, the two domain names, 'yourcompany.com' and 'yourcompany.net,' would need to be registered separately. If you already own the .com domain name, and want to purchase the .net name, visit an accredited registrar. The official listing of these registrars are found at http://www.internic.net/regist.html.
