I would just like to know the requirements for obtaining the MCP certification. From what I could find from Microsoft's Web site, you need to pass only one exam, and that could be basically anything. See http://microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/mcp/requirements.asp.

I'm not sure if you have to pass Networking Essentials in addition to the one exam, or if Networking Essentials just doesn't count. Any information would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.
The exams that appear on the Web page you cite in your question will qualify you for MCP status. Any single such valid exam will do the trick. You can't take Networking Essentials (70-058) any more; it was discontinued in February, 2001. Thus, that exam not only doesn't count (or, more correctly, didn't count) toward MCP status, you can't take it any more, even if you wanted to. The short sweet statement of attaining MCP status is to say "any current, valid Microsoft certification exam confers MCP status on its holder." Clear enough?
