Screen locked up during upgrade to Win2k Pro

While upgrading from Win98 SE to Win2k Pro, the screen has locked up with a black screen and white reverse commas. Help!
Although Microsoft supports upgrading from Windows 98, the operating systems are so different I wouldn't recommend it. Over the long term, your system will be much more stable if you simply do a fresh install instead of an upgrade.
