Unknown programs in startup

An unknown program is being launched at startup that's attempting Internet access. How can I identify this program so I can disable the behavior?
Run the MSCONFIG program and look in the "Startup" tab. You should be able to see all the programs launched at startup, and disable them if need be. (If it's a rogue service, then look in the "Services" tab, but be careful not to disable something that's actually vital.)
