Slow boot times on XP are usually symptomatic of a couple of things. One, it may be having trouble getting a DHCP address; two, you may have additional protocols registered in the network stack that do not need to be there (such as NetBIOS, unless you're actually using that for something -- I recommend using TCP/IP wherever possible). Try setting the machine to a static IP address and see what happens.
