Will XP update a driver if there is a version in the cab file?

When using an unattended file for XP and I specify a path for PNP drivers, will it update the driver even if Windows has a version in the cab file?
Maybe. Here's an overview of the rules: Windows XP will use the most recent device driver, if all everything else is equal. If the device driver is unsigned, then Windows XP will use the signed version even if it's older than the unsigned version. Make sure that you're copying signed device drivers to your OEM drivers folder.
