QUESTION POSED ON: 20 June 2005
We have two domains on same subnet. One is an NT domain with only one PDC and other is a 2003 domain with one DC. Two-way trust is established and working. We want to remove the NT domain and demote the NT PDC to a member server of the 2003 domain without reinstalling it. Is it possible? If so, how do we remove the NT domain?

EXPERT RESPONSE
The only real thing that you can do is upgrade the NT PDC to being a Windows 2003 server. This will effectively upgrade the NT domain to a Windows 2003 Domain. Once it is a Windows 2003 domain, you can run DCPROMO and demote the Windows 2003 server to being must a stand alone server. I am assuming here that the PDC is the last server in the Windows NT domain. Once the server is a stand alone server, you can join the Windows 2003 domain. You haven't actually reinstalled the system -- only upgraded it.
