After reading your reply to the question of what certifications you would recommend to someone who has moved to the area of management from a technical position, I was wondering what certifications you might recommend for someone just starting out in network administration?

The general approach is remarkably similar:
- Check out introductory networking and Internet certs at Brainbench or U2Test.
- Move onto the Network+ and i-Net+ CompTIA exams.
- Pick an operating system (NetWare, Windows, Linux, Solaris, etc.) and start climbing their network admin certification ladders.
- If that's not enough, consider jumping next onto Cisco for networking infrastructure certs, or protocol analysis certs for forensics, security, management and troubleshooting.
