QUESTION POSED ON: 13 August 2002
We want to upgrade our Windows NT4 SP4 workstation to Windows XP, and we would like to keep the backend Windows NT 4.0 (SP6a) server as it is for some months, before eventually changing to Windows 2000 server. During this process we will have both XP and NT clients in the network. Do you foresee any issues with this?

>
Generally no. The big change will be during the migration. When you change the NT 4.0 domain to Win2000 Active Directory the XP boxes are going to pick up on it a lot faster. They will change their operation almost immediately to take advantage of AD. This means changes to Kerberos authentication and LDAP communications that the NT 4.0 workstations are oblivious to. It is not really a problem, just something you have to keep in mind.
