QUESTION POSED ON: 10 June 2003
I have used MS' migration tool and it works great, but I don't recall or know if passwords can be maintained after the migration from an NT domain to Win2k. I am running AD, and the first domain migration worked great, but I noticed that the accounts had the "user must change password at next logon" selected. By unselecting this option, is the original password kept? Thanks.

EXPERT RESPONSE
If you used the ADMT tool, the user passwords were reset to blank or a password you specified during the process. The release of Windows 2003 saw the release of a newer version of ADMT and some helper DLLs to allow for password migration in some cases. See How to use Active Directory Migration Tool version 2 to migrate from Windows 2000 to Windows Server 2003.
