QUESTION POSED ON: 04 August 2003
Each time I start a program on this one particular Windows 2000 box, Windows Installer pops up and tries to re-install Office 2000. Office 2000 is fully installed on this standalone PC. I have also seen this on a WinXP Pro 3.06 Ghz Dell in the office. What do I have to do to stop this Windows Installer activity?

EXPERT RESPONSE
Windows Installer often acts like this if there is a resource that is not installed properly. Check the Application Event Log for MsiInstaller warnings that should indicate what component is failing detection. From there you can trace what resource is causing the problem and then through verbose logging determine whether or not the resource is actually being fixed by the install operation.
