QUESTION POSED ON: 27 August 2003
In a large enterprise, how do I find out what DCs perform what roles -- i.e, the name of the GC and how many there are, etc?

>
EXPERT RESPONSE
The DCDIAG.exe from the support tools will tell you. Also, the NTDSUTIL.exe from the support tools or resource kit will provide this information. There is a Microsoft article on how to find servers that hold the flexible single master operations roles. There are a number of ways -- the quickest is to use NTDSUTIL or the script in the resource kit that uses NTDSUTIL.exe.
