QUESTION POSED ON: 29 February 2004
We have problems with students using the NET SEND command. How do we prevent them from using that command? We have already, via a policy change, prevented the CMD command. But instead they are using NET SEND from batch files. We don't want to disable the Messenger Service. We have tried to list the NET.EXE name and path in User Configuration/Security Policies but this doesn't seem to help. It is still possible to use the NET command.

Yet another job for ... Software Restriction Policies! (But only if you have Windows XP machines.) If you don't, try APPSEC.EXE from the Windows 2000 Resource Kit.
