When Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010 hit the streets, they phased out many older infrastructures so that similar -- and sometimes better -- technologies could be provided through Exchange Web Services (EWS).

Anyone whose job involves creating applications for Exchange Server owes it to themselves to learn about Exchange Web Services. This book discusses the basics of how EWS works and what it replaces. It also explains how EWS presents the contents of a given mailbox through its APIs, how to use notifications, how to manage errors and much more. There isn't an Exchange 2010 version of this book, but there are notes inside that mention that some functionalities in EWS (e.g., folder ACLs) are not available, but will be added soon, and that you can still access them through legacy APIs.
