Kingdom Hearts is Squaresoft's newest release for Playstation 2. In it, the main character, Sora, is separated from his friends (Riku and Kairi) and wakes up in a place called Traverse Town. Meanwhile in Disney Castle, King Mickey has vanished and left a mysterious message for Donald and Goofy to find a "key." Soon Donald and Goofy also end up in Traverse Town, where they find that the key is actually Sora. From there, the three band together in search of their missing friends, the whole time having to face and beat evil characters (such as Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent and Peter Pan's Captain Hook).
I found this game enjoyable, and once I started playing, it became apparent that this is Final Fantasy for a younger audience. The style of Kingdom Hearts is essentially the same as the Final Fantasy game series, which I loved, so you'll see no complaints from this reviewer.
Kingdom Hearts combines game play with movie-like clips that move the story line along. If you've played Final Fantasy or ever watched a Disney cartoon and you have children or nieces and nephews, this is a great game for them. You can sit with them and give them some pointers as they get a feel for moving around in the game, and the characters are sure to keep both of you interested.
