In addition to offering support for AMD Virtualization, called AMD-V, Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 beta 2 adds Volume Shadow Service, which improves support for backup machines individually. Administrators can download Virtual Server SP1 beta 2 on Microsoft's site.

The service pack, which is expected to become available in early 2007, will support Intel Corp.'s Virtualization Technology (IVT) and Active Directory integration. After initially charging for the technology, Microsoft has made its Virtual Server 2005 R2 technology available as a free download.
