Office Communications Server 2007 private beta released

Microsoft began offering a private beta of its Office Communications Server 2007, which lets users integrate VoIP into existing networks.

It offered the product to 2,500 customers, some of whom were on hand in Redmond for a week-long event as members of the Technology Adoption Program (TAP) users.

Office Communications Server 2007 is one element in Microsoft's strategy to infuse unified communications into IT enterprises. This particular server can integrate with Microsoft's just released messaging server, Exchange Server 2007. With the Communications Server, end users will be able to make VoIP calls from Office 2007 applications, such as Word and Outlook.

Office Communications Server 2007 was formerly known as Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005.
