d. Both a and c
Most of the people who report this problem have some form of Microsoft Office installed -- usually Office 2000 or better. Office 2000 installs different versions of the files Oleaut32.dll, Olepro32.dll, Asycfilt.dll and Stdole2.tlb -- several critical system components which must be kept consistent with each other be work correctly. If a badly-written install program updates one of these components without also keeping the others consistent, the components may not be able to communicate with each other and this error results. (There may also be other components that interrelate with these that can throw this error, but the ones listed above are the main culprits.)
