ACLs (access control lists,) don't work on any other file system than an NTFS volume -- and when copying a file or a folder to another NTFS volume, the ACLs don't travel with the file by default. To force ACLs to always be preserved when copying files between volumes:

a. Overwrite the existing ACLs rather than rename them
b. Adjust the appropriate REGEDIT properties
c. Add a REG_DWORD value named 'ForceCopyAclwithFile'
d. Add a registry value that preserves metadata
e. Join a convoy and keep the smokies off your tail
