TechTarget names best Windows products for 2006 |

IT managers' relentless demand for greater security, higher performance and better manageability of their Windows operating systems and applications were reflected in TechTarget's Windows Products of the Year 2006.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners span new or improved products in 15 categories ranging from archiving to backup and recovery to server monitoring and tuning.
The products were judged by TechTarget editors in conjunction with the team's industry experts, analysts and consultants. Judges evaluated more than 165 Windows products introduced and shipped between Sept. 30, 2005, and Nov. 1, 2006. Winners were selected by a panel of judges representing SearchExchange.com, SearchSQLServer.com, SearchWinComputing.com, SearchWindowsSecurity.com and SearchWinIT.com.
Judges evaluated each product based on these seven criteria: innovation, support, performance, ease of integration into existing environments, ease of use and manageability, functionality and value.

In the Active Directory category, NetPro Computing Inc.'s RestoreADmin v2.5 took top honors. For the Group Policy category, NetPro Computing won the gold again, this time for its GPOADmin v1.1 product. Silver and Bronze Award winners among the 18 entries for these categories are listed on the SearchWinIT.com site.

Thirty-five total entries were evaluated for best Exchange products in four categories. Mimosa Systems took the no.1 spot in the Archiving and Compliance category and in the Backup and Recovery category with its Mimosa NearPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server 2.0. The Gold winner in the Server Security category went to Barracuda Networks Inc. for its Barracuda Spam Firewall 900, and Zenprise Inc.'s Zenprise 2.0 won Product of the Year in the Reporting and Management category. Webroot Software Inc.'s Spy Sweeper Enterprise 3.0 was awarded Product of the Year in the Anti-x category. The top spot in the Patch Management category went to GFI Software's LANguard Network Security Scanner 7, and the Gold Award winner in the End Point Security category was FullArmor Corp.'s GPAnywhere 2.5. More than 40 entries vied for top honors in three SearchWinComputing.com categories. Ipswitch Inc.'s WhatsUp Professional Premium 2006 placed first in the Server Monitoring Tools category. Winning the Gold Award in the Remote Control Software category was GoToMyPC Corporate 5.0 from Citrix Online, a division of Citrix Systems. VMware Inc.'s VMware Infrastructure 3 was named Product of the Year in the Disaster Recovery category. Each category's Silver and Bronze Award winners are listed on the SearchWinComputing.com site.

Quest Software Inc.'s LiteSpeed for SQL Server 4.6 was the Gold Award winner in the Backup and Recovery category, while Tableau Software Inc.'s Tableau v2.0 took the top spot in the General category. In the Performance and Tuning category, SQL Sentry Inc.'s SQL Sentry Event Manager Enterprise Edition v2.7 won Product of the Year honors.
