A Community Technology Preview for Microsoft's midmarket server, code-named Centro, is ready for download with many of the features now in Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 built in.
Centro combines Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft's System Center line of management products. The CTP also has updates for System Center Essentials, Microsoft Exchange 2007 and security such as the ISA Server.
To test Centro, which is available on Microsoft's Connect Web site, IT shops will need three 64-bit servers. The server is designed for companies with 250 PCs or fewer.
Also making an appearance in the CTP are updates to setup and Active Directory domain join functionality, according to a Microsoft TechNet blog.
Microsoft introduced Centro during a Business Summit in 2005. At the time, the company promised more administration under a single console, which has since resulted in the company tightly integrating its management products with Windows Serve 2008.
Microsoft also offers a midmarket package called System Center Essentials that combines System Center Operations Manager and Windows Server Updates Services.
