VMware releasing management tool based on PowerShell |

Microsoft's virtual machine manager already has a PowerShell admin interface, and now VMware is adopting PowerShell as a means to administer its virtual world.
The virtualization vendor this month plans to release a VI PowerShell Toolkit beta for managing VMware virtual environments, according to the VI PowerShell blog.
Techies are already hailing the PowerShell administration interface as a significant time-saver over VMware's VI Perl Toolkit as seen in
this blog that shows 20 command lines of Perl needed to perform the same task as one PowerShell script.
A testing lab for the new toolkit attracted more than 250 students during VMworld Europe 2008 in February, with some attendees spending hours playing with PowerShell cmdlets. "Considering all the great sessions and other labs offered at VMworld Europe, this is really a testament to how important PowerShell is going to be for system management in the coming years," said VMware product manager Carter Shanklin in the blog post.
PowerShell is already built into many of Microsoft's systems management products, such as its Virtual Machine Manager and System Center Operations Manager 2007, and Microsoft has made it clear that all of its future client and server releases will include the PowerShell command-line admin interface.
