Microsoft will be giving out pre-beta copies of Windows 7 at its Professional Developer's Conference in late October.
According to a blog by Mike Swanson, a technical evangelist at Microsoft, Windows 7 will be a major topic of discussion at the event. Some other topics expected to come out of the show,
such as Microsoft's focus on building blocks for services and mesh architectures, are also catnip for the Windows developer community.
Microsoft has made only a few bits of information about Windows 7 available to the public. In May, it said it would not be using a new kernel, but rather will refine the Vista kernel in the new operating system that is due out in 2010.
In August, a Microsoft group product manager said that Windows 7 is equal to Windows Server 2008 R2, which means there will not be major changes. The client version of Windows 7, however, is expected to be a major release.
