Microsoft today launched its midmarket server and small business server bundles with flexible payment terms.

The Windows Essential Business Server (EBS 2008) for companies with up to 300 PCs combines Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server 2007, SQL Server 2008, System Center Essentials 2007, Forefront Security for Exchange and Forefront Threat Management Gateway.

Microsoft midmarket server could save IT a bundle
EBS 2008 Standard Edition costs $5,472 for five client licenses (CALs) and the Premium Edition is $7,163. IT managers can pay for EBS over a 24- to 60-month time frame, and Microsoft offers financing for the hardware, software and professional services related to the installation and management of the server.

IT shops can apply existing investments in products such as Windows Server 2008 or Exchange Server 2007 toward the purchase of ESB 2008. That could lead to savings of up to 35% on the server bundle.

For IT administrators, System Center Essentials centrally monitors system health and automates about 80% of common server administration tasks. The server is also pre-configured to speed up installation.

The same payment options and financing apply to Windows Small Business Server 2008 [SBS 2008], which is designed for shops with up to 75 PCs. The small server bundle has Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008.

SBS 2008 Standard Edition costs $1,089 for five CALs, and the Premium Edition is $1,899 for five CALs.
