A slew of vendors will be releasing products and forming alliances related to Microsoft's enterprise manageability platform at the company's Management Summit 2004 next week.

Software vendors and integrators have banded together with the common goal of interesting more enterprise customers in adopting Microsoft's manageability software and related technologies.

At the Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas, the companies plan to launch the SMS-Alliance, which they hope will provide customers with a means of reaching vendors who have expertise in Windows manageability.

"Our purpose is to put our efforts together as small companies, to hook up customers and share best practices," said Mike Walker, a director of marketing at Miramar Systems Inc., in Santa Barbara, Calif. "The goal is for companies to have a better investment, so they don't have to piecemeal [software] together."

The alliance members are 1E Ltd., Intrinsic Technologies LLC, InstallShield Software Corp., Miramar, PS'Soft Inc., Vintela Inc. and XcelleNet Inc.

Sumir Karayi, CEO of 1E Ltd., a London consulting firm and software manufacturer, said that Microsoft will support the alliance members, all of whom make products that extend Microsoft's Systems Management Server (SMS) in some way.

Karayi said that the alliance will have no shared infrastructure.

Separately, Configuresoft Inc., Woodland Park, Colo., said that it will integrate its Enterprise Configuration Manager with SMS to provide centralized assessment before and after software distribution. The capability will be available in the second quarter of 2004 from Configuresoft. Pricing will start at $995 per server and $30 per workstation.

Additionally, Wise Solutions Inc., a subsidiary of Altiris Inc., Lindon, Utah, said that it will make available Wise Package Studio 5.1. This release will help companies prepare and test applications prior to deployment.
