DEFINITION - Wired for Management (WfM) is a specification from Intel that allows the performance of certain computer configuration and maintenance functions over a network or dial-up connection. Most computers designed for use in business environments have this capability built-in. The specification is currently in version 2.0.

Using WfM, the installed hardware and programs of a remote computer can be determined and monitored in real time. Another feature, remote wakeup (RWU), minimizes unnecessary use of system bandwidth by keeping unused machines online only when they are needed according to a pre-planned schedule. Access to distant computers can be monitored and regulated. It is also possible to repair corrupted files and programs, update the operating system, update antivirus programs, back up files, and monitor overall computer "health" by remote control.
