We all know that data transfers can be done in many forms. However, this suggestion by a self-proclaimed tech savvy sales rep is among the more unusual!

GC, an administrator from Peterborough, ON, took a tech support job after graduation from college. When he started, his company was upgrading its e-mail software. For his first project, GC was asked to contact all outside sales reps and arrange for them to come into the home office to have their system upgraded and attend a 1/2 hour training session.

All went well until a remote rep returned GC's call and made it clear that he did not see the need to come into the main office because he was perfectly capable to do the upgrade on his own.

That's when he dropped the line that would stick in GC's mind for years to come. "I'm very well versed with all software and computers," he said. "Fax me the software and I will install it myself."

Somehow, GC managed to suppress his laughter without rupturing any internal organs. The second the receiver was down he couldn't help but explode in such hysterical laughter that everyone in the IT department gathered around his desk asking what was going on. GC explained what had happened.

Amused with the situation, GC's colleagues came up with a plan. Looking like they were just following orders, they took a photocopy of the 3.5" floppy disk that contained the upgrade and faxed it to the user with a cover sheet that said "Have fun!!"

As they expected, they didn't receive a response.

Two weeks later the user showed up at the office. He brought his laptop in to the IT department and asked for the new email software to be installed. He never mentioned the fax incident. However, the second he walked into the office, things fall totally silent. And the second he left hysterical laughter erupted once again.

Lesson learned: Don't rely on fax machines for software upgrades. Get with the times - have the tech people e-mail you a digital photo instead.

Do you have your own blooper? Send it in and claim your fame.
