On PCs with A-branded hardware, precious time can be won by not visiting the Windows 2000 compatibility site.
Never install Windows 2000 over an exsisting version of Windows 98 or Me. It is better to install the system on a clean hard disk partition, because otherwise you may end up with Windows 98 or Me failures.
To reiterate, install clean (do not upgrade!) and skip visiting the Windows compatibility site if a-branded hardware is installed in the PC. When in doubt, always consult the manufacturer and not Microsoft. Also, you're better off using Windows 2000 drivers from the manufacterers Web site instead of using the standard Windows 2000 drivers.
