Deleting Win2k system DLLs

Procedure:

  • Enable Windows Explorer to view protected operating system files.
  • This will display a folder called DLLCACHE under the path WINNTSystem32. Microsoft allows system DLLs to be renamed in the DLLCACHE folder.
  • Once renamed, you can browse back to the WINNT folder and locate the original DLL file.
  • The file name will not change under the WINNT folder, but you will be able to delete the file since you have renamed it in under the DLLCACHE folder.
