Instant file restore

After restoring the same Microsoft Access database from tape several times due to corruption, I decided to implement a second layer to our backup routine.

First, I wrote a batch file that copies the database to a designated folder on the same server. I then used Windows 2000 Task Scheduler to run the batch file every night after hours, before backups run.

If the database becomes corrupt again (and it tends to), I just copy the file back to its original location. This saves at least 10 minutes over retrieving a tape and scheduling a restore job.

For one database, I've given permission to all of IT so that non-admins can restore the file as well.
